Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and describe about life stress in nursing students.

Methods: The data was collected from Nov, 2 to 15, 2009. Study subjects were 570 nursing students, they were recruited from 3 nursing departments of four year college, in Busan, Korea. Their life stress was measured using the Life Stress Scale for college students developed by Chon et. al(2000).

Results: 1) The life stress score was mean 37.07¡¾16.98(range 0-150). The sub dimension of life stress that showed academic performance area score at 1.44¡¾0.60(range 0-3), value area score at 1.06¡¾0.70, economy area score 1.80¡¾0.72, interpersonal relationship with faculty score at 0.74¡¾0.59 and future and getting employment area score at 0.83¡¾0.52. 2)There were significant differences in grade (F=11.101. p<.001), satisfaction of school(F=12.365, p<.001), satisfaction of major (F=9.607, p<.001), perceived health status(F=15.686, p<.001), level of school record at las semester (F=9.982, p<.001) and attitude in class (F=8.786, p<.001) according to general characteristics in the life stress among nursing students.
Conclusion: Nursing students have life stress especially academic performance, value, economy and relationship with faculy area. Therefore, nursing school should establish health promotion strategies for nursing student to relieve their life stress for enhancing their health and adaptation of campus life.
